Provillus Hair Loss Treatment for Men

Hair loss and thinning hair have been sensitive issues for men throughout time. Recently, medical science has finally identified the main cause of hair loss. Now, it is a known medical fact that hair loss stems from both genetic and hormonal causes. Androgenetic Alopecia or "male pattern hair loss" is implicated in 95% of hair loss cases. The key is a hormonal byproduct called DHT (dihydrotestostrone). The more DHT that gets put into your body, the more your hair follicles become thinner and finer until the hair is permanently lost.
DHT- The hormones responsible for hair loss
DHT is one of many male hormones in the body. DHT is developmentally important early in a man’s life; however, it appears to be a cause of hair loss as men get older. Male pattern hair loss is caused by a hormone called as dihydrotestostrone (DHT). It is produced from the hormone testosterone with the help of an enzyme- 5-alpha reductase. DHT, once formed, binds to the hair follicles, retarding their growth and cutting off their blood supply. The hair starts to thin down and eventually falls. Thus, the more levels of DHT in the body, more the hair follicles shrink causing male pattern baldness.
DHT- Effect on the hair cycle
Hair in our scalp are regularly grown and replaced by constant hair cycling of activity and rest. A typical hair undergoes three phases- the growth phase- anagen lasts for two to six years producing well pigmented-thick hair. At any given time, 90% of the scalp hairs are in the growth phase. The second phase, catagen is a transient phase lasting for few weeks. The hair starts becoming thinner and the follicle starts shrinking. The last phase, telogen is for two to four months, where the thinned hair falls off making way for new hair. DHT has been shown to shorten the growth phase causing untimely hair fall. It also causes shrinkage of hair follicles so that regrowth may not occur.

Active Ingredients
Vitamin B6 is one of the B-complex, water-soluble vitamin. It exists in three major chemical forms: pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine. Vitamin B6 is very essential for body functions and its deficiency can lead to many disorders including hair loss. [1] It is essential for nerve function, immune function, protein digestion and production of red blood cells. Vitamin B6 promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss. [2]
Biotin is also one of the Vitamin B complex necessary for fat and carbohydrate metabolism. It is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails and deficiency state has been shown to cause hair loss. [3]
Magnesium, an important mineral is essential for chemical reactions in the body including energy metabolism, protein synthesis, neuromuscular transmission, bone structure and hair growth. [4]
Zinc is an essential mineral necessary for a healthy immune system and proper functioning of enzymes. It is needed for cell division and hence important for skin, nails and hair. Studies report that zinc causes increase on hair density and reverses hair loss. [5] [6] [7]
Saw Palmetto extract has been shown to reduce DHT and 5 alpha-reductase. It actually blocks the receptor sites that are required for the absorption of DHT. It promotes hair growth by blocking the culprit DHT. [8] [9]
Nettle root blocks 2 enzymes, 5a-reductase, which makes the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and aromatase enzyme, which makes estrogens. It also possesses antimicrobial, antioxidant, analgesic and antiulcer activity. [10] [11] [12]
Pumpkin (Cucurbita Maxima): The oil extract from pumpkin seeds has long been used as hair supplement. The extract has shown activity against testosterone, therefore has potential in preventing hair loss. [13]
Eleuthero Formerly Siberian Ginseng, (Glandular) is a member of the ginseng family, though it is of a different genus than other popular ginsengs such as the Panax variety. Like other ginseng, it had been traditionally used for healthy hair, for increasing endurance and helps restore concentration. The extract decreases testosterone levels in the body along with other stress hormones. [14]
Uva-Ursi extract has antimicrobial activity. [15] The herb neutralizes acidity in the urine, increasing urine flow, therefore reducing bloating & water retention, making it beneficial for hair growth.[16] [17]
Muria Puama plays an important role in energy metabolism, protein synthesis, neuromuscular transmission bone structure and hair growth for both men and women. Also help with stress management, nervous system stimulation, virility, and overall health. [18] [19] [20] [21]
FAQ
Q: What causes hair loss?Hair loss, or alopecia, is a common disorder and can be due to many causes. Human hair undergoes phases of growth and rest during their life span. The growth phase is called anagen; 80% of the scalp hair is in this phase at any point of time. 20% of the hair is in the sleeping phase called telogen. It has been estimated that the scalp normally contains about 100,000hairs. Therefore, the average number of hairs that can be lost in a day is about 100. Hair loss can be of several different types, including alopecia areata (temporary hair loss in a coin-shaped patch), telogenef fluvium (temporary hair loss secondary to a stressor on the system), and androgenetic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss). The most common, male pattern hair loss is seen during the 20s or early 30s by gradual loss of hair, chiefly on the top of the head and in the angles at the frontal hairline. It is thought to be due to the male hormone combined with genetic factors.
Q: Is stress a factor in hair loss?
Stress does not cause hair loss, but it aggravates the condition. A type of hair loss called as Telogen effluvium occurs after an insult to the system. The most common cause is pregnancy. This can result in extensive and worrisome hair loss in women in the first few months after the birth of a baby. It is, however, temporary and returns completely.
Q: What is DHT and how is it involved in hair loss?
DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, is an active form of the male hormone testosterone. Studies suggest that DHT levels can harm hair follicles in a genetically predisposed person, eventually causing baldness. The chemical conversion of testosterone to DHT, if blocked can prevent hair loss. There are hair restoration products that target this reaction. Few examples are finasteride, a prescription medicine and an active ingredient in Propecia. Finasteride blocks the chemical reaction that converts testosterone into DHT, thereby making the hair follicles active again make new hairs.
Q: What is the relationship between genetics and hair loss?
Although not the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss, genetics does have a significant role in male-pattern hair loss. It is, however, polygenic, in that there is more than one factor at work. It is not clear whether having an affected mother or an affected father predisposes descendants to greater risks.
Q: Can hair loss occur in young adults?
Male-pattern hair loss typically is seen from 20s and early 30s, but can also be found as early as 15. Hair loss in young adults may also be due to other causes like Alopecia areata and telogen effluvium, can occur in children as young as one year of age. Genetic factors may also contribute to hair loss.
Q: What can be the cause of a sudden loss of a large mass of hair?
Sudden loss of large mass of hair can be due to stress caused by illness, high fever, pregnancy, extreme weight loss or gain, and drug use; however, it is temporary and reversible. This happens when the hair cycle is disrupted and more hair shifts to the resting phase. This type of hair loss is temporary and full re growth should be expected.
Does Provillus have any side effects?
No. Provillus does not have any known side effects.
Do shampoos and other hair products cause hair loss?
Sue of strong chemicals or products that may cause allergy can initiate hair loss. Shampoos are designed to be as safe as possible. However, the sensitivity may differ from person to person. Caustic hair dyes, straighteners, and other products can certainly cause inflammation of the scalp and result in hair loss.
Can my hairstyle cause my hair to fall out?
Certain hairstyles can contribute to hair loss, most notably styles involving tight braids or pull-backs. This form of hair loss is called traction alopecia. This occurs when the hair is pulled tightly back and fastened at the base of the skull, or braided into tight braids or rows. Exposure to this type of hairstyle over long periods can result in a scarring alopecia, with no potential for re-growth.
